AMES, Iowa-The Baylor soccer team grabbed a one-goal lead, however, Iowa State tied the game in regulation and won with a goal in the second overtime as the Bears lost in their Big 12 Conference road opener. With the loss, Baylor fell to 4-5-1, 1-2-0 in the conference as Iowa State improved to 4-7 and 1-2 in Big 12 play.
After a scoreless first half, Baylor grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute when junior midfielder Tiffany Boshers scored her fourth goal of the season. Off of a pass from Kandyce Farr, Boshers scored from the top-right hand corner of the penalty box with a shot into the upper-left of the goal to give the Bears the early second half lead.
Erin Witte was able to tie the game for the Cyclones late, however, when she scored on a header from Beth Passman in the 78th minute. Kate Kirwan also added an assist on the goal as the game headed into overtime tied at one.
Amy Flores gave the Cyclones the win in the 105th minute with her shot from the right side off a pass from Stephanie Kaphingst. Kelly Burke also added an assist on Flores' first goal of the season.
Despite the loss, the game was even throughout as both teams recorded 17 shots on the night. Baylor's Ashley Holder recorded six saves in the loss as Iowa State's Jo Haig recorded five saves in the win.
Baylor will look to rebound from the tough loss when the Bears travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face No. 11 Kansas on Sunday, October 3, at 1:00 p.m.
