Volleyball Falls to Kansas on the Road

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Baylor couldn't match Kansas' offensive effort as the Jayhawks hit .376 for the match to down the Bears, 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-26), in Big 12 Conference volleyball action Wednesday night at the Horejsi Family Athletic Center.
Junior outside hitter Kelly Spriggs (Houston, Texas) led Baylor (12-15, 4-12 Big 12) with 11 kills, while freshman libero Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) had 13 digs to lead the Bears defensively.
Josi Lima had a match-high 18 kills for Kansas (15-9, 6-9), while Jana Correa added 15 kills.
Kansas scored seven straight points to take a 17-6 lead in game one, but Baylor fought back with a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 24-23. The Jayhawks rebounded to score the next three points and hung on to take the game, 30-25. Kansas hit .316 in game one, while holding Baylor to .083.
Kansas led by four at 13-9, but Baylor crept to within one at 17-16. The Jayhawks bounced back up by four at 22-18, then took a 25-20 lead for enough cushion to put the Bears away, 30-23. The Jayhawks hit .477 with 23 kills in the game, while the Bears hit .297.
The Bears scored four straight to take a 13-11 lead, but a 9-1 run by the Jayhawks put them up 20-14. Baylor could get no closer than three the rest of the way as Kansas closed out the match with a 30-26 decision. The Jayhawks hit .326 for the game, while the Bears hit .205.
The Bears return to action for the first of three straight at home when they host No. 20 Kansas State Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
