WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball head coach Steve Smith announced Tuesday the signing of Reid Engel to a National Letter of Intent. With the signing of Engel, Baylor has inked 12 players during the early signing period.
"Reid is a tremendous athlete and student with the potential to be an outstanding player," Smith said. "His decision caps off a very successful early signing period."
Engel is a 6-2 left-handed hitting outfielder from Monument, Colo., where he preps at Lewis Palmer High School. Under the direction of head coach Chuck Milo, Engel hit .431 with six home runs, 37 RBI, 36 runs, six doubles, five triples and 10 stolen bases as a junior. He is a two-time first-team all-league honoree, and he was named honorable mention all-state by the Rocky Mountain News in 2004. Engel also earned all-area and academic all-state honors as a junior.
Last summer, Engel played for the Colorado Slammers, coached by Denny Southwick. Engel hit .405 with six home runs, nine doubles, five triples and 15 stolen bases for the Slammers.
Engel's father, Paul, played collegiate baseball at the University of San Diego.
