SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Baylor women's golf team claimed the team title by four shots Tuesday, with all five Bears finishing in the Top 10 at Rollins College's Ross Resorts Invitational at the 6,042-yard, par-72 Mid Pines Golf Course.
Baylor took the lead after day one of the tournament and remained in first with a final score of 934 (315-305-314) to conclude their fall season. Sophomore Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) tied for sixth with a 234 (81-75-78), leading the Bears individually.
The four remaining Bears tied for eighth with a final score of 235. Freshman Sian Reddick (Folkestone, England) with scores of 80, 78 and 77, junior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) with scores of 78, 76 and 81, junior Sherry Summers (Montgomery, Texas) with 77, 78 and 80, and junior Josefin Svenningsson with scores of 80, 76 and 79.
Freshman Stephanie Waters, competing as an individual, tied for 32nd with final score of 246 (86-83-77).
James Madison finished second (306-315-317=938), four shots back of Baylor, and nine shots ahead of third place finishers Richmond (320-313-314=947) and host Rollins College (313-314-320=947).
James Madison's Carol Green (74-81-74=229) took first place individually, one shot ahead second-place finisher Shelley McGraw (79-73-78=230) from Birmingham Southern. Memphis' Stacey Tate finished third with a 232 (78-78-76).
In the latest Golfstat rankings, Baylor ranks 22nd nationally and third in the Big 12. Three Bears are ranked in the top 15 of the conference. Freshman Sian Reddick (Folkestone, England) is ranked eighth in the conference, junior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) is ranked 13th and junior Josefin Svenningsson is ranked 15th.
The Bears will open their spring season Feb. 21-22 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
