Baylor Upends Arkansas-Pine Bluff

WACO, Texas (AP) - Aaron Bruce scored 17 points, and Patrick Fields and Kevis Shipman added 16 and 15 respectively to lead Baylor to a 63-53 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday.
Tamarius Brown led Arkansas-Pine Bluff scoring with 17 points, and William Byrd added 13.
Fueled by Bruce's five points, the Bears (2-1) outscored the Golden Lions 8-2 to open the second half and went ahead 42-29. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4) countered with a 10-2 run and narrowed the gap to 44-39 on Brown's 3-pointer with just under nine minutes remaining.
But the Golden Lions never got any closer than the five-point margin. Tommy Swanson scored six straight points to put Baylor ahead 55-43 with just over four minutes left to play, and the Bears coasted to the win.
Baylor jumped to a quick 15-2 first-half lead with Shipman nailing a trio of 3-pointers. Arkansas-Pine Bluff crept back into the game and cut the deficit to 21-19 on Virgil Young's layup with just under seven minutes left to play.
The Bears surged back with a pair of Shipman 3-point baskets and led at the half 34-27. Shipman connected on 5-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half but was held scoreless in the second half and finished with a 5-for-10 3-point performance.
