Baylor

  • Dionne Brown started the game 6-for-6 from the field. She has now scored in double-figures 12 times this season.
  • Young set a career high with 30 points; her previous high was 27 against Washington State way back on Nov. 29. It was her seventh 20-point outing of the season. Sophia Young has scored in double figures in 30 of Baylor's 32 contests.
  • Young tied her career high with 12 field goals; she also had 12 field goals yesterday against Texas Tech.
  • Young became the 22nd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She now has 1,023 points in her two-year career.
  • Steffanie Blackmon did not play due to an injury suffered yesterday against Texas Tech. This was the first game she has missed this season.
  • Abiola Wabara set a career high with nine points. Her previous high was seven against Texas A&M on Feb. 28. Wabara also set a career high by grabbing five rebounds.
  • Baylor fell to 20-3 when they outrebound their opponent.

Tournament

  • The No. 1 seed is 4-1 all-time against the No. 5 seed.
  • The No. 1 seed has advanced to the championship game every year since 1998, winning five of the last six tournament titles (#3 Iowa State won the tournament championship in 2001).
  • Baylor is now 7-8 in Big 12 Tournament play, including a 1-1 record in semifinal games.
  • This was the first meeting between Baylor and Texas in the Big 12 Tournament.
  • Young's 30 points set the record for most points in a semifinal game. Andria Jones of Kansas State had the previous high of 28 points against Kansas on March 6, 1997. Young also set a semifinal record with 23 field goal attempts.
  • Young is the fifth player to score 30 or more points in a Big 12 Tournament game (32 by Nicole Kubik [NU, 2000] and Tera Bjorklund [CU, 2003]; 30 by Danielle Viglione [UT, 1997] and Sheila Lambert [BU, 2002]).
  • Young is the second player to make 12 or more field goals in a game twice in one tournament. The last person to accomplish the feat was Tera Bjorklund of Colorado who had 13 field goals twice.
  • Young's 74 points for the tournament is tied for the second most all-time with Nebraska's Nicole Kubik (1999, three games). Texas' Edwina Brown holds the overall tournament record with 88 points (2000, four games).
  • Young is the second player to make 30 field goals in a tournament (30). Brown had 35 in 2000.
  • This was the 11th tournament game decided by four or fewer points, and the second semifinal decided by four points (Texas Tech 53, Oklahoma State 49; 1998).
  • Baylor's 12 steals tied a semifinal record (Oklahoma, 2002; Baylor, 2002).
