WACO, Texas - The Baylor track team will host the Michael Johnson Classic Friday and Saturday at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex. This year's field is the largest in the history of the event with several of the top athletes in the region scheduled to be on hand.
The Baylor men's team is currently ranked ninth in the country, while the women are tied for 19th. Quarter-milers sophomore Jeremy Wariner, who has run the fastest time in the world so far this year and is ranked No. 1 in the country, and junior Darold Williamson, who is also ranked among the Top 10, will both be in action.
On the women's side, junior Lakadron Ivery will compete in the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the long jump and anchor the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. She is ranked among the nation's best in all of her events.
The action will start Friday with the low pole vault at 3:30 p.m. and the hammer throw at 5 p.m. The field events kick off the action Saturday at 9 a.m. The prelims for the running events begin at 11 a.m., followed by the finals which will begin at approximately 6 p.m. Please note the running events are on a rolling schedule and could begin before or after the approximate time listed.
