COLUMBIA, Mo. - Baylor scored a run in the top of the first inning and then saw Missouri score in seven straight as the Bears dropped a 12-4 game in the opener of the Big 12 Conference weekend series Friday night at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Kyle Reynolds put Baylor (10-18, 2-5) ahead with a two-out single to left in the top of the first that plated Chase Gerdes, who led off the game with a double to center.
However, Missouri (21-6-1, 2-2) answered in the bottom of the second on a Ryan Rollo two-run homer to take a lead it never relinquished. The Tigers stretched their lead with a run in the third and an unearned run in the fourth.
Michael Griffin pulled the Bears to within one with a two-run double in the top of the fifth. Missouri was quick to answer, though, as Rollo lifted another two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers added another run in the sixth on a two-out walk, two wild pitches and a passed ball. Brad Flanders' seventh-inning grand slam capped the offensive onslaught for the Tigers.
The Bears scratched the board in the top of the ninth on a Mike Pankratz two-out RBI single.
Baylor starter Sean Walker (1-5) took the loss after allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Missouri starter Danny Hill (3-2) earned the victory. He surrendered three runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
