WACO, Texas - On the strength of several outstanding performances this past weekend at the Michael Johnson Classic, the Baylor men's track team moved up four spots to fifth, its highest ranking of the year, while the women's team jumped up five spots into a tie for 14th in the latest Trackwire 25 released Tuesday.
Junior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Jeremy Wariner (Grand Prairie, Texas) rank 1-2 in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen as well as 1-2 in the world in the 400 meters. The duo has also led the 4x400-meter relay team, along with sophomore Jamen Saziru (Waco, Texas) and freshman Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas), to the No. 1 ranking for an 11th straight week as they hold the world's top time at 3:01.06.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Williamson, Wariner, Saziru and freshman Braelon Davis (Dallas, Texas) is ranked eighth. Sophomore Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) ranks sixth in the 800 meters and is only two-hundredths of a second out of the Top 20 in the world.
On the women's side, junior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) ranks fifth in the 100 meters and 10th in the 200 meters as well as 10th in the long jump. Ivery also ranks 10th in the world in the 100 and 14th in the world in the 200.
Junior April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas) is ranked fourth in the long jump, but holds the longest marks in the Big 12 and the Midwest region, the second-longest mark in the country and is tied for eighth in the world.
The Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country. This projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event. The complete Trackwire 25 can be found at www.trackwire.com.
