FORT WORTH, Texas - Josh Ford laced a two-run triple to cap a three-run Baylor sixth and break a scoreless tie as the Bears defeated TCU 4-0 Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The Bears (19-22) win their third straight and for the ninth time in their last 13 games. TCU (26-16) snapped a six-game winning streak with just their third loss in the last 12 games.
Baylor starter Andy Pape (2-1) tossed a gem with 7.0 scoreless innings before handing things off to the bullpen. In his fourth start of the season, Pape scattered four hits and three walks and worked out of several early inning jams.
After two-thirds of an inning from Ryan LaMotta, Abe Woody retired the game's final four batters with three strikeouts for his third save of the season.
This was Baylor's fifth shutout of the season and the second of TCU this year. The Bears blanked the Frogs 11-0 in seven innings March 30 at Baylor Ballpark.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth, Zach Dillon scored Michael Griffin with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to left. Ford followed with his second triple of the season, a line drive down the line in right, scoring Kyle Reynolds and Reid Brees.
The Bears added a run in the seventh when Griffin stole second and then scored on a Reynolds single to center.
Baylor could not dent TCU starter Ryan Weems, who held the Bears scoreless on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts through 5.0 innings. Tim McGough (1-2), the first of four TCU relievers, took the loss. He was touched for four runs, three earned, on two hits and four walks in 1.2 innings.
Reynolds finished 2-for-4 as the Bears got hits from eight of nine starters and all nine starters reached base.
Baylor returns to action Wednesday, hosting Texas Southern for a 6 p.m. CDT first pitch at Baylor Ballpark. Wednesday's game is an addition to the schedule due to the April 10 rainout in the Oklahoma State series.
