WACO, Texas - Mike Pankratz went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, and Sean Walker pitched 7.0 effective innings as Baylor pounded Oklahoma State 12-2 in the first game of a three-game Big 12 Conference series Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.
Baylor (14-18, 5-5) won its fourth straight game and third straight conference contest with a 14-hit night. Kyle Reynolds, Zach Dillon and Paul Witt joined Pankratz with multiple-hit games, knocking two hits each. Witt also drove in three, and Josh Ford scored three times.
Oklahoma State (20-12, 3-4) scored a run on a walk, a wild pitch and a Scott Kirby single in the top of the second. However, the Bears answered with four runs on three hits and a Cowboy error in the bottom of the frame. Witt had the big hit in the inning, a two-out bloop double down the right-field line that scored two runs.
Baylor tacked on three more in the third, thanks to RBI singles from Dillon, Pankratz and Witt, and two more in the fourth on a Reynolds run-scoring single and a Ford sacrifice fly. OSU scratched an unearned run in the top of the fifth before Baylor put single spots on the board in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. The run in the fifth was on a Pankratz leadoff home run, his third of the season.
Walker (2-5) worked through spotty control and earned the victory, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts. The junior right-hander used 106 pitches with 59 strikes and 47 balls. Zane Carlson and Jeff Mandel pitched the final two innings, respectively.
Oklahoma State starter Thomas Cowley (1-2) was run from the game in the third after allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings. The Cowboys used six pitchers on the night.
