ATLANTA, Ga. - The Baylor men's and women's track team continued to tune up for the NCAA Regional as they competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday at Griffin Track.
Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams captured victories. The men's team of senior Joel Martin (Stephenville, Texas), freshman Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore Jeremy Wariner (Grand Prairie, Texas) and junior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) clocked a 3:04.29. The women's squad of sophomore Shanta Bibbs (San Antonio, Texas), freshman Rena Napoleon (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Mary Pearce (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior Elizabeth Wilson (Duncanville, Texas) won with a time of 3:33.28.
The men's 4x100 team of freshman Braelon Davis (Dallas, Texas), Williamson, Wariner and sophomore Jamen Saziru (Waco, Texas) finished fifth with a time of 39.85. Wariner finished second in the 200 meters at 20.61, while Davis clocked a 21.14 and finished sixth in the 100 meters at 10.48.
Junior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) won the 100 meters with a time of 11.43, while sophomore Marquisha Sefas (Ft. Worth, Texas) ran 11.82. Sefas clocked 23.73 in the 200 meters, while Ivery ran 23.77 and Wilson ran 23.78. Freshman Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) finished fourth in the 3,000 meters at 17:18.10, and sophomore Angela Marvin (Kingwood, Texas) placed sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase at 10:52.61.
Junior April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas) and Ivery finished 3-4 in the long jump. Holliness recorded a mark of 6.12 meters (20-1), while Ivery leapt 6.04 (19-9 ?).
In the 400 meters, junior Danielle Myricks (Willingboro, N.J.) ran a 54.19, Bibbs ran 54.49 and Napoleon 54.82. Pearce clocked a 2:12.92 in the 800, freshman Monique Ortega ran 4:34.45 in the 1,500, freshman Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) posted a 1:01.06 in the 400 hurdles and sophomore Janelle Mulkey (San Antonio, Texas) finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.98.
Sophomore Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) finished seventh in the 400 meters in 46.47, while Saziru ran 47.23 and Martin 47.49. Freshman Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) ran 3:47.51 and senior Kyle King (Sulpher Springs, Texas) clocked 3:49.33 in the 1,500 meters. Junior Chris Gillis (Camden, N.J.) posted a mark of 7.12 meters (23-4 ?) in the long jump.
The Bears return to action at the Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Texas A&M May 28-29 in College Station, Texas.
