Baylor Quotes
Head Coach Steve Smith
"The game, for us anyway, was really about pitching and defense. As much as the one big inning helped give us a little breathing room, if we don't pitch and play defense there's not going to be enough runs to win it.
"I know [starting pitcher Trey] Taylor was what some would call effectively wild. He doesn't walk a lot of guys in the game, but he was a little bit all over the place. They hit some balls we were able to get to and (we) turned some double plays against them. I think a couple of those guys we did it to today did not hit into one all year. But that's just the way the game is.
On starting pitcher Trey Taylor lasting until the eighth inning
"He lived on the edge, obviously several innings. I had tried to take him out in the sixth inning; I had already called the pen. He just talked me right out of it. He told me he still had an inning left. If I had had my way, and believe it or not I don't always, he would have only gone six innings. But every out in this thing is important, and every inning you can spare your bullpen in a tournament like this is big."
Pitcher Trey Taylor
On pitching seven complete innings
"I don't think anybody who goes out to compete wants to come out. I definitely wasn't ready to come out after six. I felt like I still had something left. I told Coach, 'I'm not done yet.' At the start of the eighth, I fell behind 3-0 and I was pretty sure he was gonna come get me after that."
DH Josh Ford
On his 427-foot homerun
"He (Texas Tech pitcher Steven Thomas) left the ball up; he was late in the count. Friday night when he threw he had been busting us in a lot, and we kind of had to be weary of that. He left the ball up and in and didn't get it in far enough."
Second baseman Paul Witt
On advancing to NCAA Regionals
"Every win from now on is a must-win. If we lose one game, that just puts us back about five games. We can't have a setback at all. We just have to keep focusing forward and play each game like it's our last game of the season."
Texas Tech Quotes
Head Coach Larry Hays
On the outcome of the game:
"We put a lot in a weekend series and were not given the opportunity to put our pitching back in order."
On four straight wins:
"It is hard to beat a team four times consistently, but Baylor's pitching was here today. It was a consistent battle for us today."
On the rest of the tournament:
"We are going to come out tomorrow and play well. If our pitching is here we have a chance to win."
First Basemen Josh Brady
On position in tournament:
"We are going to come ready to play tomorrow. We have an uphill battle, but it is not anything we have not done before. We are going to come out with our "A" game tomorrow."
Shortstop Cameron Blair
On his RBI in the fifth inning:
"I thought we had a chance. All we had to do was get the ball rolling again, but Baylor stopped us."
On playing back at home:
"Fun. I have about 50 relatives that showed up to the game. It puts me under pressure, but I like to play under pressure. I have always dreamed about playing in this stadium. I want to keep playing in it, so we have to win."
