Attendance - 8,539

  • Baylor erased a 2-1 Texas Tech lead with three runs in the top of the third and then scored a pair of runs in the fifth and ninth innings to defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 8-3 in the opening game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Tournament at Ameriquest Field in Arlington before a crowd of 8,539.
  • Texas Tech first baseman Josh Brady tripled to right center to open the bottom of the first. It was the first triple of the tournament, last done by Baylor's David Murphy in 2003 vs. Texas in Oklahoma City. It was the first time that a Texas Tech player had tripled in the tournament since Jason Huth against Oklahoma on May 18, 1997 at All-Sports Stadium. The other was by Keith Ginter against OSU the day before in 1997.
  • Third straight game and fourth time that designated hitter Josh Ford had hit a home run - a solo homer that went 427 feet into the second deck in left field. It was his ninth consecutive plate appearance of reaching base.
  • Matthew Coco blasted his seventh homer of the season in the bottom of the second to center field to give the Red Raiders a 2-1 lead.
  • Baylor second baseman Paul Witt doubled to left center to cap a three-run Bears' inning and give Baylor a 4-2 lead. It was Witt's 11th double of the season and drove in runs 25 and 26 of the year.
  • Three doubles in the top of the third sets a new Big 12 Tournament record for doubles in an inning. The previous record was 2, set last year by Texas against Baylor at SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
  • Baylor turned the first double play of the tournament - a 6-4-3 twin-killing in the bottom of the third started by shortstop Kyle Reynolds.
  • Reynolds fell one double play short of the tournament record for double plays in a game - 3 set by Cody Ehlers of Missouri against Kansas in the 2003 tournament.
  • The Bears turned three double plays in the contest - one short of the team tournament record of 4 set by Missouri in last year's tournament against Kansas.
  • Starting pitcher Trey Taylor went seven-plus innings, throwing 112 pitches with 66 of them for strikes. He hit two batters in the contest and increased his team-leading mark for hit batters to 7.
  • Taylor was one short of the tournament record for hit batters in a game - 3 by Casey Fossum of Texas A&M vs. Baylor in 1998 and Steve Gooch in the 2002 contest against Kansas State.
  • Right fielder Mike Pankratz blasted his fifth homer of the season in to the right center field bullpen in the top of the ninth.
  • Taylor picked up his sixth victory of the season against three defeats, while Steven Thomas was saddled with his seventh defeat of the season.
  • Time of the game was 2 hours and 19 minutes, much shorter than the Red Raiders 13-inning affair in the opening game of the tournament two years ago against Kansas State - also at Ameriquest Field in Arlington.
