ARLINGTON, Texas - Baylor right fielder Mike Pankratz earned all-Big 12 Tournament honors, the league office announced Sunday. Oklahoma State won the conference tournament, overcoming a 9-2 deficit entering the eighth inning and winning 10-9 in 13 innings.
Pankratz hit .500 on the week, going 6-for-12 with seven runs, three double, two home runs and five RBI. His slugging percentage of 1.250 was the highest of any player in the tournament. His second home run of the week, a two-run shot to left against Oklahoma, gave Baylor a 10-run lead and ended the game by virtue of the mercy rule.
Baylor had several outstanding performers on the week who were left off the all-tournament team.
Along with Pankratz, left fielder Kevin Sevigny and center fielder Chase Gerdes gave Baylor arguably the tournament's best all-around outfield. Sevigny hit .500 (5-for-10) with six runs, a double and two RBI; Gerdes was 5-for-15 (.333) with five runs, a double, a triple and six RBI.
Second baseman Paul Witt was errorless in 24 total chances and participated in a tournament-record eight double plays; he also had two stolen bases and four RBI. Shortstop Kyle Reynolds had the highest batting average of any shortstop who played at least two games, going 4-for-13 (.308) with four RBI. Designated hitter Josh Ford had a home run, two doubles and drove in three runs.
Relief pitcher Ryan LaMotta tied the Big 12 Tournament record with two saves, allowing only one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work over two appearances.
