EDINBURG, Texas - Baylor head cross country and assistant track coach Todd Harbour, who had an outstanding collegiate career at Baylor, was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame Friday night.
"It's a great, great honor for me," Harbour said. "The Rio Grande Valley's had some great athletes like Tom Landry and Bobby Morrow and I'm honored to be part of that. That's my home and I still consider it home, so it's very special."
Harbour, a native of Port Isabel, Texas, was a five-time All-American for the Bears under head coach Clyde Hart. Harbour won the Southwest Conference championship in the 1,500 meters every year from 1978-1981 and was the NCAA runner-up from 1979-81.
Harbour still holds the collegiate record in the mile with a time of 3:50.34 in 1981, one of the oldest records in collegiate track, and owns three Baylor records.
The Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame was created in 1985 to preserve sports history and recognize deserving people who have brought recognition to the Rio Grande Valley. The hall of fame is currently housed at the Edinburg Auditiorium.
