 | | Head football coach Guy Morriss will stop by for a live chat Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. CDT. | Guy Morriss took the reins of the Baylor football program on Dec. 11, 2002, when he was introduced as the Bears' new head coach. Morriss and the Bears will begin fall practice Aug. 9, looking to improve upon last season's 3-9 mark in his first season, which included a Big 12 victory over defending North division champion Colorado. Morriss came to Baylor with 14 years of experience as a coach at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He spent 18 years in the National Football League, where he was an All-Pro player, played in two Super Bowls and coached for three seasons. Morriss arrived in Waco from Lexington, Ky., where he spent six seasons helping to turn around the Wildcat football program - the last two as head coach. In his 2002, Kentucky turned some heads with a 7-5 record, including wins over Mississippi State, eventual SEC West Division champion Arkansas and 17th-ranked Louisville. The seven-win season in 2002 was only the fifth since 1955 for Kentucky, which received votes in the AP Top 25 poll. UK's defeats included a four-point setback vs. South Carolina, a seven-point loss at then-No. 7 Florida and an unbelievable three-point defeat on the final play vs. then-No. 17 LSU. In Morriss' two seasons as head coach at Kentucky, 10 Wildcat players earned All-SEC recognition and two were named All-American. In his six seasons, four UK offensive linemen were selected first-team All-SEC and three earned freshman All-America honors. Moderator: We apologize for the technical difficulties with today's chat. We will reschedule the event for another day. Thank you for your patience. |

| Dan McHenry, Illinois: Hey Coach, I look foward to a winning season this year. It will be my freshman year and I hope I can go crazy, cheering for a successful team. What will you do to try to make this years team successful. |
|
| Aaron (Los Angeles): Coach Morriss, I would first like to thank you for the pride you have brought back into the Baylor program. I unfortunately don't have many opportunities to watch Baylor games live since I am in California. However, my old roommate and I make it a tradition to attend one Baylor game a year (this year we are going to Lincoln). Does it frustrate you when there isn't a better showing of Baylor fans at the away games? |
|
| Paul (Denver): Coach Morriss, Over the last couple of months I have been very encouraged by the early commitments of next years recruits and feel very good about where the program is headed in the coming years. That being said, now that the 2004 season in almost here, where do you think the team has improved the most - offense, defense, strength and conditioning, depth, etc.? |
|
| Austin (Waco): Coach Morriss, What kind of strength gains, if any, have our OL and DL achieved? |

| ted johnson: Coach morriss, I was just wandering how would you compare this preseason workout to the one last year, and also, which player, or players stand out to you as ones who will hopefully make a difference this year. Thanks a lot.... |
 | | Guy Morriss: In the future we've got SMU, TCU and we're trying to schedule a series with Rice. With the Big 12 as tough as it is, we have to be very selective who we play in the non-conference portion of our schedule. There's also the possibility of a 12th game starting next year, which would allow us to play 6 or 7 home games a year. |
|
 | | Guy Morriss: Much better. The kids are more familiar with us and we are more familiar with them. They've worked very hard in the weight room on their own time this summer and have really bought into our strength and conditioning program. We'll be in better shape this year than we were a year ago. |

| Gary-Don, Dallas: Coach: Why can't we get the former greats jerseys put back up on the hallway walls by the locker room at the CASE? It would send a great message to incoming recruits as well as honor former greats.............if you need any help with a hammer down there let us know and a few of us former players will gladly come assist y'all. |
|
| John Rogers: Waco, TX: Is Baylor planning preseason games with other Private D-I schools in the nation that have the same type of big league situation we do. (Vanderbelt, Miami (OH), Duke, ect.) I think it would be good to play these teams and create a pre-season that can build our program up, while staying on our level. I hate playing D-1AA schools, and teams in a lot smaller conferances. |

 | | Guy Morriss: Not really. We would like to have as many people as we can to get there, but given the fact that fans haven't had a lot of success to watch, I understand why people wouldn't go. We just need to win more road games, and we appreciate you and your buddy making the trip. |

| Joe (Richmond, Va.): What is the injury status of Nick Pace and Evan Stone and will Yancy Boatner be on the team? |

| Tolbert Newman, Houston: Coach, you and your staff are doing a wonderful job of bringing back our football program. I attended your visit to Houston on July 26, and was impressed by the enthusiasm, excitement about Baylor that your assistants exhibited. Afterwards I reviewed the roster for 2004, and I am very impressed by the seeming quality, as well as quantity of players that are available. I know they are young, and largely inexperienced, but with your good coaching, and a lot of enthusiasm, I can see us having a pretty good year. Is a bowl game definitely within reach? |

 | | Guy Morriss: Significant, but coming from where we came from, there is still a significant gap to overcome. I'm encouraged by what I've seen so far. |

 | | Guy Morriss: Definitely, but we're going to be a very young team with 86 freshman and sophomores on our roster in the media guide. We'll probably be the youngest team in the Big 12 and one of the youngest in the nation. That said, if we get better every week, the ball bounces our way and we get a little lucky, it could happen. |

 | | Guy Morriss: Probably in defense and strength and conditioning. Our talent pool is getting better defensively and we're making making significant strength and conditioning gains. Note: We are aware of the problems with the live chat. It is a problem on collegesport's end, not ours, and they are working to correct it. Please check the chat at the end of the session and we will edit so the questions and answers match up. |
