Baylor baseball loses former letterman Draper

WACO, Texas - Former Baylor baseball letterman Clyde Davis "Rusty" Draper died early Sunday morning. Draper, 47, was a member of Baylor's 1981 baseball team, and spent 18 years as a teacher and coach in the Lewisville [Texas] School District.
A native of Lynwood, Calif., Draper coached golf and taught social studies at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. Upon returning to the school late Saturday afternoon after taking his team to a golf tournament in Lubbock, Draper collapsed of an apparent heart attack. He was transported by ambulance to Lewisville Memorial Hospital and later was moved by CareFlite to St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, where he died at 4:19 a.m. CDT.
Draper transferred to Baylor from Ranger [Texas] Junior College, where he was a member of the school's 1978 national championship team. Draper appeared in 14 games for the Bears in 1981 with three starts; he hit .230 with four runs scored.
After graduating from Baylor, Draper began his coaching career at Gordon [Texas] High School before moving to Lewisville in 1987. He served the previous five years as golf coach at Marcus and previously was an assistant coach for the Marcus baseball team.
Draper is survived by his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Shelley, 19, Caitlin, 15, and Samantha, 11.
