Baylor juniors Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) and Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) tied for 36th, leading the Bears to a ninth-place finish at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational at Texas Tech University's 6,375-yard, par-72 Rawls Course Sunday.
The 54-hole tournament was cut to 36 holes due to rain. The Bears finished the first day of play in sixth place, with rain cutting out the second day of play.
Jones carded five birdies finishing the tournament at 154 (73-81). Svenningsson also finished at 154 with rounds of 78-76. Svenningsson's par-5 scoring average of 4.63 ranked second among contestants.
Freshman Sian Reddick (Folkestone, England) tied for 47th at 155 (74-81). Junior Sherry Summers (Montgomery, Texas) tied for 69th at 160 (78-82). Sophomore Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) tied for 76th at 162 (83-79). Freshman Stephanie Waters (Austin, Texas), competing individually, tied for 91st at 166 (81-85).
Notre Dame claimed the overall team title with a 17-over par 593, four strokes ahead of Oklahoma. SMU and Missouri tied for third, with Arkansas finishing fifth.
The Bears return to action at Price's Give-em Five Intercollegiate Oct. 4-5 in Las Cruces, N.M.
