WACO, Texas -- After a scoreless first half, Nebraska's Jessie Bruch broke through in the 68th-minute for the only goal of the game as the Baylor soccer team fell to the Huskers 1-0 in action at Betty Lou Mays Field. With the loss, Baylor falls to 2-9-1 on the season, 0-4-0 in conference play, as Nebraska improved to 8-3-1, 3-0-1 in the conference.
"I really thought we showed marked improvement over the way we have played the last few games," head coach George Van Linder said. "I really thought we outplayed them throughout, however, we were unable to capitalize on our chances and that was the difference in the game."
The play was even throughout the first half as each team registered seven shots during the first 45 minutes, however, neither team was able to score as the game remained scoreless heading into halftime.
With the score tied at 0-0, Nebraska finally broke through in the second half when Huskers goalie Jamie Klages took a free kick that deflected off of NU defender Sasha Andrews and over to Bruch. Bruch took the pass and managed to shoot the ball into the upper-left hand corner of the net in the 68th-minute to give Nebraska the lead.
The lead managed to stand as Baylor was unable to tie the game late as the Bears dropped their seventh consecutive match.
Holder played well in the loss for the Bears managing eight saves during the contest. Klages made four saves to record the shutout victory for the Huskers.
Tiffany Boshers led the way for Baylor with six shots as Nebraska out-shot the Bears 15-13 on the night and held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Baylor will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 9, when the Bears host Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
