WACO, Texas - Baylor University will tip off its 100th season of men's basketball with an intrasquad scrimmage Nov. 18 at the Ferrell Center following the women's game vs. UCLA (approximately 9:30 p.m.).
The free Centennial Tip-Off Scrimmage is the first in a series of events that will celebrate the program's centennial season, which will be highlighted by the naming of an All-Centennial Team.
Chosen by fan vote, the All-Centennial Team will consist of the 15 greatest players of Baylor Basketball's 100 seasons. Voting will take place throughout the month of January. Fans will be able to vote online at www.baylorbears.com, at Ferrell Center drop boxes during games and through mail-in ballots. In February, first, second and third All-Centennial Teams will be announced.
Friday's Centennial Tip-Off Scrimmage, the night before the Bears' home football finale vs. Oklahoma State, will give fans a sneak peek at Scott Drew's 2005-2006 Bears squad. The scrimmage will consist of two 10-minute halves. Following the scrimmage, a dunk contest and 3-point shooting contest will be held. The 3-point contest will include intramural students from campus. Following the events the team will be available for autographs. Free posters and schedule cards will be handed out.
Baylor basketball officially began in 1906-07 with a seven-man Bears squad that won its first two games and finished 5-6. The Bears' storied history includes Final Four appearances in 1948 and 1950, a national runner-up finish in 1948, five conference championships as well as the heroic tragedy of the 1927 Immortal Ten team.
The Bears open their season Jan. 11 at Texas Tech. The first home game is Jan. 14 when Baylor hosts Oklahoma State at the Ferrell Center.
