The Baylor women's golf team got off to great start with a 300 in the opening round and a 295 in the afternoon to shoot a 595 and are currently in third place at the Central District Classic. The spring season-opening event is hosted by Michigan State at the 6,099-yard, par-72 River Wilderness Golf Club.
Freshman Sian Reddick leads the Bears and is in second at 145 with an opening round 73, followed by a 72. Junior Meredith Jones had an outstanding first day, recording back-to-back scores of 74 to tie for 13th at 148.
Junior Josefin Svenningsson (77-75=152) is tied for 25th, while sophomore Anna Rehnholm (76-77=153) is tied for 31st and junior Sherry Summers (81-74=155) is tied for 38th.
Missouri shot a 587 to lead the overall team standings by two strokes over Arkansas and 10 strokes over Baylor. Arkansas' Stacy Lewis (72-70=142) shot 2-under par for the day and leads the individual standings by three strokes over Baylor's Sian Reddick and four strokes over SMU's Jennifer Ackerson.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday beginning at 7 a.m. The event can be followed live on BaylorBears.com.
