The seventh-ranked Baylor Lady Bear basketball team will attempt to claim its first outright conference title in the sport's 31-season history when the 13-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders invade the Ferrell Center for Thursday's 7:30 p.m. contest which will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance on Thursday will receive fan cards courtesy of the Waco Tribune-Herald and sponsored by Allen Samuels Chevrolet. In addition, Time Warner will be handing out free foam fingers outside the Ferrell Center to the first 1,000 fans who visit their kiosk.
Baylor, which earned at least a share of the 2004-05 Big 12 women's basketball regular-season championship with Saturday's 84-65 victory at Colorado, hopes to reach the following milestones on Thursday:
· Claim the program's first-ever outright Big 12 title. Baylor assured itself of at least a share of its first conference title in program history with Saturday's win at Colorado.
· Break the school single-season attendance record of 93,910 which was set in 17 games during the 2001-02 campaign. Baylor, which has averaged 6,549 fans through 13 games this season, needs a crowd of 8,772 against Texas Tech to break the school's one-season attendance record.
· With a 13-0 record, Baylor can complete its first-ever undefeated home schedule with a win over the Lady Raiders. The Lady Bears' 16-game homecourt win streak is currently the nation's seventh-longest string.
· Thursday's game marks the final home game for Baylor seniors Steffanie Blackmon, Tiffanie Blackmon, Melanie Hamerly and Chelsea Whitaker. The Lady Bears' Class of 2005 has helped the program post a 100-29 overall record since arriving on campus while advancing to the postseason every year and earning at least a share of its first-ever regular-season conference title this season.
