PALO ALTO, Calif. - Senior Jessa Chance (Southlake, Texas) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with the world's fastest time this year of 10:19.21 Friday night in the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Chance's time also breaks Angela Marvin's school record of 10:23.73 set in 2003 and easily posted an NCAA regional qualifying time.

Senior Matt Chance (Colleyville, Texas), Jessa's husband, broke the school record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:26.52. The time eclipses the mark set by Bill Adams in 1979.

Sophomore Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time with a 33:46.98 in the 10,000 meters.

The rest of the Baylor track and field team opens the outdoor season at home in the Dr Pepper Invitational Saturday at Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.
