WACO, Texas - Top-ranked Baylor men's tennis continued its winning ways Friday as the Bears defeated No. 27 Virginia Commonwealth 6-1 at the Baylor Tennis Facility. The Bears improve to 11-0 on the season, and have won 35-straight matches dating back to last season.
The Bears took the doubles point from the Rams, sweeping all-three matches. No. 43 Michal Kokta and Lars Poerschke took the first match from Maton Ott and Sebastian Ripoll of Virginia Commonwealth 8-3, in the second court. Then, No. 44 Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga captured the point with an 8-4 win in the first court.
Baylor started singles action by taking the first-two singles points. No. 93 Zgaga brought in the first-singles point on the fifth court with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Kokta finished moments later, giving Baylor a 3-0 lead with his 6-2, 6-1 win in the fourth court.
With the score at 3-1, No. 9 Dorsch sealed the win for Baylor in his first appearance in the second court this season. After winning the first set 7-5, Dorsch trailed Marton Ott 4-5 in the second set. Dorsch won three-straight games to take the point and give Baylor the win.
The Bears continue action on Sunday against No. 2 Virginia. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Facility.
