WACO, Texas - Baylor senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) was named the Big 12 Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career following his performances at the Michael Johnson Classic, the league office announced Tuesday.
Williamson ran a 45.06, the second-fastest time in the country, to edge Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner for a victory in the 400 meters Saturday at the Bears' final home meet. He also anchored the 4x440-yard relay to a winning time of 3:08.45.
Williamson was the anchor on the United States' gold-medal winning 4x400-meter relay and is the three-time defending Big 12 champion in the 400. He was also named Big 12 Athlete of the Year last year and is a nine-time All-American in the 400 meters and the 4x400-meter relay.
The Baylor track team returns to action Thursday through Saturday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
