The Baylor women's golf team tutors students each month at Bell's Hill Elementary in Waco. The team participates in a three-year-old program called "Mathletes," which was created by a former women's golfer to help students in mathematics. Mathletes has grown over the years and now includes tutoring in different areas.
The Baylor student-athletes now work one-on-one with individual fifth grade students, assisting them with various subjects. The athletes help the students read their library books, work on math problems and review practice tests.
Junior Sherry Summers coordinates the team's community service efforts.
"It's really a lot of fun working with the kids," Summers said, "and hopefully we'll be able to help them make better grades."
This is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches are involved in many Waco community relations programs. For more information, please call Baylor's athletic marketing office at 710-3073 or log on to Baylor's official athletic website: www.baylorbears.com.
