AUSTIN, Texas - The Baylor women's 4x400-meter relay squad of freshman Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas), seniors Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) and Danielle Myricks (Willingboro, N.J.) and junior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) ran 3:31.75 to finish second on the final day of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The women were edged by Texas at the finish with a winning time of 3:31.29. The men's 4x400 relay of sophomore Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas) and Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas), junior Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) and senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) did not fare as well, finishing ninth with a time of 3:10.46. The Bears were ninth going into the final handoff when another runner from the third leg did not get off the track and collided with Williamson, dashing any hopes for the Bears to get back into the race.
Myricks ran a regional qualifying time of 57.55 to finish third in the 400-meter hurdles, while Ivery (Tyler, Texas) finished seventh in the 100 meters with a regional qualifying mark of 11.34 with a 5.7 wind reading.
The women's distance medley relay of sophomores Monique Ortega (El Paso, Texas) and Rena Napoleon (Colorado Springs, Colo.), freshman Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.) and senior Jessa Chance (Southlake, Texas) finished fourth with a time of 11:36.67, while the men finished eighth in 10:07.07.
The Bears return to action at the John Jacob Invitational Saturday, April 16 in Norman, Okla.
