DALLAS, Texas --- The No. 7 Baylor softball team placed five student-athletes on the coaches' All-Big 12 Conference squad the conference office announced Wednesday. Chelsi Lake, Harmony Schwethelm and Kim Wilmoth earned first-team honors while Tessa Lynam and Kelly Osburn were named second team all-conference.
The five selections to the all-conference team mark the most for the Lady Bears in school history, surpassing the 2004 and 2001 squads that each had four members selected all-conference.
The first-team selection for Schwethelm marks the second consecutive season the junior outfielder has been named first-team all-conference. Schwethelm ranks second on the team and seventh in the conference with a batting average of .400 on the year. The junior leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 33 stolen bases and ranks second on the team with 50 runs scored.
Wilmoth also earned her second career all-conference selection after earning second-team honors in 2003. The senior shortstop ranks first on the team and fourth in the conference with a .404 batting average and ranks third on the team with 25 stolen bases this season.
Lake earned her first selection to the all-conference squad after posting new school records for home runs and RBI in a season. The sophomore designated player ranks second in the conference with 15 home runs and leads the league with 59 RBI while batting .365 on the year.
Osburn was named second team all-conference for the second consecutive season. The junior established a new school record with 53 runs scored this season and ranks second in the conference in the category. The lead-off hitter ranks second on the team with a .438 on-base percentage while ranking fifth on the team with a .346 average on the year.
Lynam was named to the team after a solid regular season for the Lady Bears at the plate and in the circle. The junior, who was a second-team All-SEC selection at LSU in 2002, ranks second on the team and sixth in the conference with 49 RBI while ranking third in the conference with 18 doubles on the year. In the circle, Lynam has posted a 10-2 record on the season and leads the team with a 1.61 ERA.
Amanda Scarborough of Texas A&M was named the Big 12 Conference Player and Freshman of the Year while Cat Osterman of Texas was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year and Heather Scaglione of Oklahoma was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
