The 2005 Bears finished the season 18-10 against nationally ranked opponents, including a 9-3 mark against teams ranked in the top 10. Baylor posted school records for wins in both categories; in fact, only two other teams in Baylor history (2002, 10; 2003, 14) had as many wins against ranked opponents as the 2005 team had against top-10 opponents.
Baylor's 2005 team also established school records with nine consecutive wins against ranked opponents, seven consecutive wins against top-10 teams. Prior to the 2005 season, Baylor had three total wins all-time against opponents ranked No. 1 nationally. This season's team was 4-0 in games against the nation's top-ranked team.
National champion Texas, which eliminated Baylor in the semifinals and handed the Bears their only losses at the College World Series, finished the season ranked No. 1, followed by national runner-up Florida and Tulane, which entered the CWS ranked first nationally.
A total of 10 Baylor 2005 opponents ended the season ranked nationally; the Bears were 14-13 in such games, including a 9-7 record against teams that finished the season in the top 10.
