Recap | Box Score

Baylor head coach Steve Smith
On Trey Taylor's complete game

"Trey had not (a complete game) in the three plus years he's been here. I think that was just a remarkable thing to get done on opening night of the tournament. If you are going to pick a time to do it, then that's exactly the time you want to do it."

On the regional
"I think this is a very well matched regional. I think the team we played tonight was a very capable club...This is baseball. Anything can happen on any given day. That's why you are so proud for the guys when you get a guy to go out and pitch like that, you gotta be really happy for him, proud for him."

Baylor pitcher Trey Taylor
On his first complete game

"I really thought after the eighth, (Coach Smith) would take me out. I thanked him after the game for giving me the opportunity to pitch my first complete game. Normally when he (is going to take me out), he comes up to me after the inning and tells me that I'm done, but he didn't do that, so I wanted to make the most of my chance at a complete game, and it was fun."

Baylor leftfielder Reid Brees
On his homerun in his first at bat back from injury

"I figured he was going to throw something offspeed and he threw a slider down and it felt really good. I was hoping it would stay fair. I thought it was going to go foul."

UTSA head coach Sherman Corbett
On the difference in the game

"I think the difference in the ball game was their multiple run innings, every time they got a hit they followed it up with another hit that led to runs. The time we got hits, we followed them up with outs except for one time late in the game when we got consecutive hits. I thought the difference in the ball game was that we were never able to get a multiple run inning going."

On playing Stanford
"Well you know, we're gonna have a short night and come back and have to play again. We have Steven Vasquez on the mound, probably one of our hottest pitchers, so we have a good feeling about that. Oviously facing a team like Stanford and the program they have, it will be a big challenge for us but if we come out and have quality pitching and work at our bats, then hopefully we will have a good chance to win the ball game."

UTSA shortstop Ryan Crew
On Baylor pitcher Trey Taylor

"He threw awesome. It seemed like he threw better to other guys than he did to me. He happened to leave a couple of pitches up to me and I took advantage of those but he threw great tonight, especially good enough for Baylor to win. I think a combination of his fastball-slider, his slider was definitely his out pitch tonight, he seemed to throw that to righties and lefties and we couldn't adjust to it and couldn't hit it."
