SOCCER HOSTS HOUSTON AND STEPHEN F. AUSTIN TO OPEN SEASON
WACO, Texas - The Baylor soccer team opens the 2005 season when the Bears host Houston on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7:00 p.m. followed by a meeting with Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7:00 p.m.
"We are excited to get the season underway. We are going against two quality opponents to start the season," head coach George Van Linder said. Stephen F. Austin was in the NCAA tournament two years ago and returns many of the starters from that squad. Houston has upgraded their roster with a couple of nice players and this year's team could be one of their strongest teams in school history.
We feel like this is one of our most prepared teams we have had here to open a season and we feel like we have done everything we can do to get ready to play."
The meeting with the Cougars, who finished 5-14 last season, marks the second time in school history the two teams have faced off in the regular season. Baylor owns a 1-0 edge in the series as Baylor claimed a 1-0 win over Houston on Sept. 5, 2003.
Houston returns Sarah Fisher, who led the team last year with six assists and was tied for second on the team last season with three goals scored.
On Sunday, Baylor will face Stephen F. Austin in a rare Sunday night contest. Baylor owns a 2-0 edge in the series, however, the teams have not faced each other since a 7-0 Bears victory on Oct. 30, 1996.

Tickets to each contest can be purchased through the Baylor Ticket Office at 1-800-BAYLOR-U or by calling 254-710-1000.
