WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman Djibril "Penny" Thiam sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Monday's win over Texas Southern, an MRI revealed Tuesday. The injury will sideline Thiam, a true freshman from Dakar, Senegal, for the season.

The first-year forward was injured in the first half during a play in which he dunked; his only basket of the night. Thiam totaled seven points and five rebounds in 28 minutes over four games as a freshman in 2006-07. He is eligible to apply for a medical redshirt following the season.

The knee injury was the second for a Baylor player this month. Senior forward Patrick Fields suffered an MCL sprain during the team's exhibition game Nov. 4 and is expected to return to action sometime in December.

Baylor's next game is Monday, Nov. 27, when the Bears host Alcorn State at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
