Volleyball Ends Season with Loss to No. 13 Oklahoma

WACO, Texas - Baylor senior right-side hitter Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) led the Bears with 13 kills and added 14 digs for her 44th career double-double, but the Bears fell to No. 13 Oklahoma, 3-1 (30-19, 28-30, 30-24, 30-16) in the season finale on Senior Night Saturday at the Ferrell Center.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) had 12 kills, and redshirt freshman outside hitter Kelsey Smith (Lubbock, Texas) had 10 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Freshman middle blocker Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) chipped in with nine kills, six digs and six blocks. Junior libero Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) led the Bears (18-15, 6-14 Big 12) defensively with a match-high 15 digs, while senior defensive specialist Deja Sweeney (Sacramento, Calif.) added seven.

Senior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) recorded six blocks to become the first player in Baylor history with 1,000 kills and 600 blocks for her career. Freshman setter Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) had four kills, five digs and 42 assists. Senior middle blocker Adeline Meira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who has been out with an injured hand, started the match but was subbed out on the first play.

Joanna Schmitt led Oklahoma (26-5, 17-3) with 26 kills and tied for the team lead with 13 digs. Laura Tomes and Bridget Laplante had 13 kills each, and Laplante added 10 digs. Sarah Weiland had 11 kills, while Rachel Jackson had 55 assists and 13 digs, and Anna Monsen also had 13 digs.

LeBlanc pushed her career kills total to 1,410, ranking sixth all-time at Baylor and ninth in digs with 1,127. Guilliard-Young finishes her career ranking ninth all-time at Baylor with 1,070 kills and second with exactly 600 blocks. Schramek moved up to sixth all-time in digs with 1,234 and will enter next season two shy of fifth and on pace to become the school's all-time digs leader.

Oklahoma hit .278 for the match, while holding Baylor to .172. The Sooners outdug the Bears, 65-59, but the Bears outblocked them, 12.0-11.0. Oklahoma had six aces and nine service errors, while Baylor had one ace and 13 service errors.

This season, the Bears finished with a winning record for the first time since 2001, and matched the number of Big 12 wins to finish alone in seventh in the conference.
