Women's DMR Automatically Qualifies For NCAAs

NEW YORK CITY - The Baylor track and field team's women's distance medley relay of sophomore Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.), senior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.), junior Ruth Waller (Manchester, England) and freshman Erin Bedell (Plano, Texas) destroyed the school record with a time of 11:07.72 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships on the first day of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track Center Friday.
The squad, which finished third, eclipsed the old mark of 11:28.20 set last year at the Big 12 Championships by Monique Ortega, Perkins, Hagans and Jessa Chance.
Senior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) and freshman Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) each qualified for the finals in their respective events, which was run in front of a crowd of 8,000 strong at Madison Square Garden. Miller finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.84. Norman, who qualified with the fastest 60-meter time at 6.64, false started in the finals, which was won with a time of only 6.68.
In the men's 3,000 meters, seniors Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) and Rob Morrow each posted personal best times. Price finished third in 8:15.45, while Morrow placed seventh in 8:19.72. Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) took second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:02.47, and sophomore Rey Hinojosa (Cedar Park, Texas) finished eighth in the 1,000 meters in 2:27.94.
Freshman Charity Williams (Corpus Christi, Texas) made a strong third-place showing in the women's 1,000 meters, running a 2:53.66.
In the men's long jump, freshman Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas) finished ninth with a mark of 7.17 meters, while senior Chris Gillis (Pennsauken, N.J.) finished 11th with a leap of 6.99 meters. In the 400 meters, junior Reggie Witherspoon ran 47.90, freshman Quentin Iglehart-Summers (Houston, Texas) ran 48.08 and freshman R.J. Anderson (Big Pine Key, Fla.) ran 48.88.
The Bears will wrap up competition at the Armory Saturday, while some of the team will compete at the Houston Indoor Invitational.
