FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Baylor track and field team will travel to the University of Arkansas for the second time this season when it competes at the Tyson Invitational Friday and Saturday at Randal Tyson Track Center, site of the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships. The meet will be the final tuneup for the Bears before the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 in Lincoln, Neb.
The women's distance medley relay is the only group guaranteed a spot at the NCAA Championships so far, automatically qualifying by shattering the school record with a time of 11:07.72 last weekend in New York, so the Bears will be looking to improve upon several NCAA provisional qualifying times and marks.
On the women's side, junior Kandace Tucker (Irving, Texas) has the fastest 200-meter time in the Big 12 Conference, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Junior Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) has a provisional qualifying time in the 3,000 meters and came very close to the standard in the 5,000 meters last weekend with the conference's top time. The women's 4x400-meter relay currently has the best time in the conference, which is also an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Senior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) has come very close to provisional qualifying times in both the 200 and 400 meters.
Freshman Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) has a strong provisional mark in the 60 meters and is close to the provisional mark in the 200 meters, while fellow freshman Quentin Iglehart-Summers (San Antonio, Texas) has the top time in the Big 12 and a provisional mark in the 400 meters. Senior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) has the top time in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles, which is also a strong provisional time, and the men's 4x400-meter relay posted a solid provisional time last time they were in Fayetteville.
Friday's events begin with the long jump at 10 a.m., while the running events begin at 11 a.m. The final event for the Bears will be the women's 60-meter final at 9:50 p.m. Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m. with the high jump, while the running events begin at 12 p.m. The final event is the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5 p.m.
