Lumley Selected to Team USA Coaching Pool

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - For the second consecutive season, Baylor softball assistant coach Mark Lumley has been assigned to the coaching pool for the USA Softball women's national team for the 2006 season the Amateur Softball Association announced. Lumley, who is in his sixth season at Baylor, has been assigned to the World University selection camp to select a team that will represent the United States at the World University Games in Taiwan.
In addition to Lumley, the following coaches were selected to represent the United States at the selection camp for the World University Games: Carol Hutchins (University of Michigan head coach), Teresa Wilson (Texas Tech head coach), Scott Whitlock (Kennesaw State head coach), Gordon Eakin (BYU head coach) and Mike Larabee (University of Illinois assistant coach).
Hutchins was selected as head coach to lead the team to Taiwan and will be assisted by Wilson, Larabee and Lumley. The World University team will also compete against the National Pro Fastpitch team Chicago Bandits, July 26-30, in Chicago, Ill.
In his eight seasons in collegiate softball, Lumley has helped guide his teams to four NCAA regional appearances, an NCAA Super Regional appearance and two NCAA regional runner-up finishes.
In 2002, Lumley was named a National Assistant Coach of the Year by Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director magazine. Lumley was one of just 14 Division I coaches so honored, and he joined Lori Sippel from Nebraska as the only recipients from the Big 12 Conference.
While serving as head coach at Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, Ariz., Lumley received numerous honors for his coaching accomplishments. He was named the 1998 Arizona Coaches Association Coach of the Year, and the 1998 Arizona All-Star Game was dedicated to Lumley for his outstanding tenure as a high school coach. He was also named the 1993 and 1997 Coach of the Year by the Daily Star-Tucson Citizen.
The No. 18 Baylor softball team will return to action on Tuesday, March 14, when the Lady Bears face No. 10 Arizona State in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
