WACO, Texas - Baylor junior Cody Wells (Crawford, Texas) ran 31:00.99 to finish seventh in the 10,000 meters and earn All-Big 12 Conference honors Friday at the 2006 Big 12 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.
Wells, who has not been healthy for an entire season in his Baylor career, runs with a screw that was inserted to surgically repair his foot nearly one year ago. The placing earns Baylor two points to stand eighth after the first day. Sophomore Jacob Jones (Willis, Texas) finished 12th with a time of 31:37.41.
Junior Brittany McGuire (Humble, Texas) finished one place from scoring, running 37:45.91 to take ninth in the 10,000 meters. Junior Chris Cardwell (Abilene, Texas) finished 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.28 meters (158-05).
The meet continues with the bulk of the action for the Bears Saturday in the preliminary heats of the running events. The action starts with the decathlon at 11 a.m. and the heptathlon at 1 p.m. The field events start with the women's long jump and pole vault at 3:30 p.m. The running prelims begin at 6 p.m.
