Kelly Osburn Named Academic All-American

WACO, Texas - Baylor softball senior outfielder Kelly Osburn has been tabbed a third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection the College Sports Information Directors Association of America announced on Wednesday.
The selection marked the first time Osburn has been selected for the honor and the seventh time a Baylor softball player has been selected to the academic all-America team in program history.
Osburn, a senior with a 3.54 GPA in health science studies, finished her career as the first player in school history to be a three-time, all-Big 12 Conference selection.
The left fielder, who also earned first-team NFCA All-Region honors this year, finished the season with a .320 average and a career high of 15 home runs as she leaves as the Baylor career leader in five hitting categories.
In addition to the academic all-American honors, Osburn was tabbed as a first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI selection, the second consecutive season she has received the honor. Junior catcher Chelsi Lake (3.30, Political Science) also joined her on the academic all-district squad.
As a program, Baylor has placed seven players on the academic All-America squad, highlighted by former player Kim Wilmoth, who was a three-time, CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
