SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Following the completion of the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, Baylor associate track & field coach Michael Ford was named the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year for men's sprints, awarded by the Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Ford worked extensively with both the men's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams, which both captured Big 12 outdoor titles. The 4x400-meter relay went on to finish third nationally and earn the Bears' 27th straight All-America honor in the event. Also this year, freshman Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) captured in the indoor 60-meter title and junior Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.) earned All-America honors in the indoor 200 meters.
Last season, Ford was honored as the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year for women's sprints. The former Baylor standout, who captured numerous All-America honors and national titles, wrapped up his sixth season on the Bears' staff at the national championships.
