FORT WORTH, Texas - Baylor freshmen Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas), Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) and Lauren Keeton (Groesbeck, Texas) lived up to their billing and showed why the Bears have the country's 16th-ranked recruiting class at the Texas Girls Association All-Star matches Wednesday night at TCU.
Keeton, a 6-2 middle blocker/right side hitter, was named the MVP of the 1A-3A match, with seven kills, four blocks and three aces to lead the East to a sweep.
Barnes, a 5-11 left-handed setter, and Breyfogle, a 6-1 middle blocker, were outstanding as they keyed the West rallies in game five to slip past the East, 25-19, 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 19-17. Breyfogle had seven kills and four blocks, while Barnes spread the wealth among a talented group of West hitters.
Baylor's entire 15-player 2006 roster is enrolled in the second session of summer school and currently on campus. While the team is free to workout on its own, preseason workouts officially begin Aug. 10 with the season-opener just two weeks later against UC-Davis Aug. 25 in Berkeley, Calif.
