For the second straight day, the Baylor football team battled the stifling Central Texas heat, as Coach Guy Morriss' Bears drilled for 2 hours and 15 minutes in half pads Wednesday evening on the Floyd Casey Stadium grass practice fields.
"It was a good practice tonight," said Morriss, whose team worked out in 100 degree temperatures for the second straight night. "We were able to put in the no-huddle (offense) tonight and I thought the first team did a good job of moving it down the field.
"The big thing right now is that we've got to get some of the guys in the training room out here," he added. "But, despite the injuries, you can see it coming together. We'll be that much better when we get the training room cleared out.
There was not much change in the Bears' injury report from Tuesday, as senior defensive end Julian Hill (sore knee), senior center Yancy Boatner (concussion), senior offensive tackle Travis Farst (knee), freshman wide receiver Garfield Hicks (hip-flexor), freshman offensive lineman Dylan Hagens (sore back), senior linebacker Paul Howard (knee), freshman inside receiver Justin Fenty (sore hamstring), sophomore inside receiver Queito Teasley (sore hamstring) and junior cornerback Braelon Davis (knee) all missed the practice. In addition, senior preseason All-America punter Daniel Sepulveda continues to be sidelined while recovering from April knee surgery.
New to the Baylor injury list Wednesday were freshman wide receiver David Gettis (sprained wrist) and junior linebacker Nick Moore (muscle strain). Redshirt freshman Trey Bryant (groin) and freshman cornerback Roman James (hip-flexor) both returned to the field after missing time earlier in the week.
Four Bears--senior offensive guard Will Blaylock (muscle strain), sophomore offensive guard Dan Gay (sprained ankle), junior inside receiver Terrance Parks (hamstring) and sophomore inside receiver Carl Sims (hamstring) went through all phases of practice except the contact periods for the third straight day.
Morriss was hopeful that his training room would be cleared out by the time Baylor begins fall semester classes, Aug. 21.
