Baylor opens the 2006 volleyball season at the Cal Molten Classic Friday and Saturday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. The Bears face UC-Davis in the opener Friday, followed by Montana and 17th-ranked California Saturday. The audio broadcast of all three matches can be heard on BaylorBears.com.
The Bears have won eight of their last 10 openers, including last year against Northwestern State.
Three starters return from last season - senior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young, senior outside hitter Nicole LeBlanc and junior outside hitter/libero Kristen Schramek. The Bears also have two other seniors back in outside hitter Deja Sweeney and middle blocker Adeline Meira, who returns after missing the entire 2005 season with a second knee surgery.
The Bears brought in the nation's 16th-ranked recruiting class, consisting of five heralded freshmen, and have two redshirts and a transfer joining the team as well.
Baylor returns to action in its home opening tournament, the Clarion Invitational Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2 against Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico, Houston and Arkansas-Little Rock.
