WACO, Texas - It's first-ever inclusion in the NIT Season Tip-Off, a road date at the Carrier Dome vs. Syracuse and a home contest vs. South Carolina highlight Baylor's non-conference basketball schedule, announced Friday by head coach Scott Drew.
The Bears' 2006-07 schedule also includes the annual grueling 16-game Big 12 Conference slate and a minimum of 14 games against teams that participated in postseason play last season.
The Bears travel to Spokane, Wash., for the opening round of the NIT Season Tip-Off (formerly the Preseason NIT). The prestigious tournament boasts 10 postseason participants from last season and features a new format that guarantees Baylor two games. The Bears open at the West Regional against Colorado State Nov. 14, and then face either host Gonzaga or Rice in a second-round game Nov. 15.
"We feel that we've assembled a challenging schedule," Drew said. "We will play non-conference opponents that will prepare us for Big 12 play because we'll face a variety of styles of play. Our home schedule should be attractive to Bears' fans and the Waco community."
Local Bear fans can catch a school-record tying 18 regular-season games at the Ferrell Center, highlighted by contests against Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Texas.
The Bears tip off the season Nov. 4 when they host Texas A&M-Commerce in an exhibition game at noon in the Ferrell Center. The regular-season opener is Nov. 11 vs. Angelo State at 7 p.m.
Season tickets are on sale and cost between $100 and $220. Individual game tickets are available for adults from $10 to $20 and $7 for youth. Baylor's athletic ticket office numbers are 800-BAYLOR-U and 254-710-1000.
