2006 Volleyball: A Look Back

The 2006 Baylor volleyball season was one of the most successful in recent memory for the Bears. Under head coach Jim Barnes, Baylor finished with a record of 18-15 and had six wins in the Big 12 Conference, including wins over nationally-ranked Missouri and Kansas State.

During the season, Baylor captured the Clarion Invitational title and had six players named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference squad.

Below is a list of some of the accomplishments of the 2006 Baylor volleyball squad.

First winning season since 2001

Ranked as high as 30th in the country

Best non-conference record in history, 12-1.

Tied for most wins since 1999, second-most since 1993 (18)

Tied for most Big 12 victories since 2001

Rank 25th nationally in blocks

Kansas (11/15) - First sweep in Big 12 play since 2002

at Texas (10/6) - First time Baylor has ever went to five games in Austin

Defeated two ranked opponents: #24 Kansas State and #16 Missouri

One of only six teams (four in Big 12) to win a game against Nebraska

Fourth-highest block total (380.0) in school history, most since 1993

Tied for fourth-highest team hitting percentage in school history

Increased digs by more than one per game

Increased kills, blocks, aces and points per game

Six Academic All-Big 12 first-team selections - most in school history

Tied for most total selection in school history

Third most in Big 12 this season

Ranks ninth all-time with 1,070 kills and second all-time with 600 blocks

182 blocks - second-highest total in school history

Kristen Schramek: Baylor's all-time digs per game leader with 3.63

Most digs in a single match in the Big 12 this season: 34 vs. Missouri

10th player in Baylor history with 1,000 digs

Ranks sixth all-time at Baylor with 1,234 digs

Tied her own record for digs in a three-game match

Taylor Barnes: Big 12 record 11 aces at Missouri

61 aces - second-highest single season total in school history

Leads the Big 12 with 0.53 aces per game

Recorded the only two triple-doubles in Big 12 play this season
