Volleyball Falls in Five Games at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Missouri - Na Yang totaled 29 kills as Missouri rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Baylor 3-2 (30-21, 25-30, 29-31, 30-22, 15-13) on Friday night at the Hearnes Center. The loss snaps Baylor's five match winning streak.

Missouri scored three-straight points to open the fifth game, but Baylor quickly tied the score at four apiece. The score was tied until Missouri took a 12-10 lead on kills from Megan Wilson and Amanda Hantouli. Baylor tied the score at 13 with a triple block from Anna Breyfogle, Katie Sanders and Haley Thomas, but a kill and block from Yang sealed the win for the Tigers.

Missouri (14-10, 7-8 Big 12) totaled 21 total blocks on the night, well above its 2.66 blocks per game average, while Baylor (14-11, 6-8 Big 12) collected just 10.5 blocks.

Sanders recorded 23 kills, while Ashlie Christenson and Breyfogle added 16 and 15, respectively. Amanda Modglin also reached double-figures with 11 kills.

Taylor Barnes distributed a season-high 61 assists and added 14 digs. Sarah Grace led the defensive charge with 21 digs, while Sanders tallied 19 for her 17th double-double of the season.

For the second-straight match, Baylor recorded 11 service aces, matching its season-high also set against Kansas and Sam Houston State.

In game one, Missouri took an early lead before Baylor trimmed the margin to 13-10. The Tigers then responded, winning five straight points. The Bears got to within six points on two occasions, but Missouri held on for the 30-21 win.

Yang and Sanders led their respective teams with six kills in game one. Christenson added four for the Bears, while Breyfogle tallied three kills.

In game two, Baylor raced out to a 10-3 lead on a solo block from Breyfogle. The Bears led by as many as eight points on several occasions, including 18-10. Missouri stormed back with an 8-2 run, trimming the lead to 20-18. Baylor extended its lead back to five points and held on for the 30-25 lead.

Breyfogle tallied six kills in game two and added three blocks (one solo). Sanders and Christenson added four kills apiece for the Bears.

Baylor got out to another quick lead in game three, and extended the lead to as many as 10 points at 23-13. Missouri had a run of their own and tied the score at 27 apiece. The Tigers had game point at 29-28, but three straight Baylor points gave the Bears the win 31-29.

Breyfogle led the way for the Bears with five kills, while Modglin and Christenson added three kills apiece.

After exchanging points through the first 16 serves, Missouri built a 13-9 lead. The Tigers extended their lead to as many as 10 points at 28-18 before holding on for the 30-22 win.

Katie Sanders tallied seven kills in game four, while Modglin added two kills for the Bears.
