COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sarah Ammerman recorded 19 kills and Mary Batis added 17 kills for Texas A&M as the Aggies defeated Baylor 3-0 (30-27, 33-31, 30-27) on Saturday night at G. Rollie White Coliseum. The match marked the end of the season for Baylor and the final collegiate match for Amanda Modglin and Kristen Schramek.
Anna Breyfogle led the way for Baylor with 13 kills while Katie Sanders tallied 12 kills in her first match in over a week following an injury. Haley Thomas added eight kills and Ashlie Christenson contributed seven kills for the Bears.
Baylor (14-17, 6-14 Big 12) served up nine service aces and did not commit a receiving error for the first time this season. Mady Bates tallied a career-high four aces, while Taylor Barnes added two, raising her Big 12 leading mark to 48 aces this season.
Sarah Grace led the Baylor defense with a match-high 18 digs, while Taylor Barnes and Schramek recorded nine kills apiece. Breyfogle recorded five total blocks and Thomas added four blocks.
Baylor finishes the season with a 6-14 conference record, the third straight season that the Bears have tallied six conference victories.
Texas A&M (21-10, 10-10 Big 12) took the first two points before Baylor rallied to tie the score at three apiece. The Bears then won five of six points to take an 8-4 lead. The Aggies battled back to tie the score at 11 before taking a 17-15 lead to force a Baylor timeout.
The Aggies took as much as a three-point lead before Baylor battled back to take the lead at 24-23. Baylor took a 25-23 lead on a kill from Breyfogle before Texas A&M scored three straight points to take a 26-25 lead and force a second timeout by the Bears. The Aggies won four of the next six points to take game one 30-27.
Ammerman led the way for Texas A&M with six kills in game one. Sanders recorded five kills, while Breyfogle collected four kills. Barnes served up two of Baylor's four service aces in game one, and Thomas led the Bears with four digs.
The two teams exchanged serves through the early portion of game two before Baylor got out to a four-point lead. The Bears held the lead until Texas A&M tied the score at 21 apiece and forced a Baylor timeout at 22-21.
Following the timeout, a Baylor hitting error and an over-pass that led to an Aggie kill forced Baylor into its second timeout of the game at 24-21. The Bears trailed by as many as three points at 26-23 before rallying to tie the score at 26 apiece behind the serve of Bates. Texas A&M had two game points at 29-27 but the Bears rallied to tie the score at 29-29. After the Aggies had game point at 30, Baylor scored two straight points to take a 31-30 lead. Batis dominated game two with 11 kills, while Sanders collected five kills for the Bears. Bates added her second service ace, and Grace added nine digs in the second game.
Texas A&M started out game three with two kills from Ammerman, but Baylor rallied and took as much as a four point lead at 14-10. The Aggies cut the lead to one at 17-16 before Baylor stretched it back out to 20-17. Two straight points from Texas A&M forced Baylor into a timeout at 20-19.
Texas A&M took a 27-25 lead before two straight Baylor points tied the match. Two straight from the Aggies gave Texas A&M match point at 29-27. A hitting error from Baylor gave Texas A&M the third game 30-27 and the 3-0 sweep.
Ammerman recorded nine kills in game three for the Aggies, while Breyfogle had six for Baylor. Breyfogle also added two more blocks and Bates tallied two service aces.
With the loss the Bears end the 2007 season with a 14-17 overall record, 6-14 in Big 12 play.
