LADY BEARS HOST USA BASKETBALL NATIONAL TEAM
The USA National Team will make a stop in Waco as part of an eight-game collegiate tour. The matchup with the Lady Bears is the fourth stop on the tour for the elite team.
The 10-member traveling squad boasts an impressive list of talent, all former collegiate and current WNBA standouts. Members of the team include: Seimone Augustus (LSU/Minnesota Lynx), Sue Bird (Connecticut/Seattle Storm), Kara Braxton (Georgia/Detroit Shock), Swin Cash (Connecticut/Detroit Shock), Katie Feenstra (Liberty/Detroit Shock), Kara Lawson (Tennessee/Sacramento Monarchs), Lisa Leslie (Southern Cal/Los Angeles Sparks), Taj McWilliams-Franklin (St. Edward's/Los Angeles Sparks), Lorre Moore (Tennessee/New York Liberty) and Diana Taurasi (Connecticut/Phoenix Mercury).
The USA squad, coached by Seattle Storm head coach Anne Donovan, has posted wins over Maryland (90-73), Connecticut (90-74) and Tennessee (83-72) prior to their arrival in Waco. After playing Baylor, they will take on Arizona State, Texas A&M, USC and Stanford.
Tickets for the Baylor Lady Bears' exhibition basketball game against the USA National Team are on sale. The $10 tickets for the Baylor-USA game are available through the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at Floyd Casey Stadium (8 a.m.-5 p.m.), the Ferrell Center Ticket Office (11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. daily) or by calling 1-800-BAYLORU or 254-710-1000.
BAYLOR AND USA BASKETBALL TIES
Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey was on the 1984 USA Basketball team that won an Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles. Current USA Basketball National Team head coach Anne Donovan was a player on that team as well.
USA NATIONAL TEAM
Versus Maryland - Kara Lawson led the team in scoring with 17 points and added eight assists. Seimone Augustus added 16 points and Diana Taurasi contributed 15 points, five assists and six rebounds in the winning effort. In addition, in her first game Lisa Leslie hauled down 10 boards.
Versus Connecticut - In a homecoming for Taurasi, Sue Bird and Swin Cash, five players delivered double-digit scoring performances. Leslie led the way with 18 points followed by Lawson's 15, while Augustus and Taurasi each tallied 14 and Katie Feenstra scored 10.
Versus Tennessee - Taurasi was a torrid 9-of-15 from the floor, including 4-9 from behind the arc, to tally 28 points and also hauled down nine rebounds. Leslie turned in a double-double with an 18-point, 12-rebound performance. Augustus (12 points) and Bird (11 points) completed the USA's double-digit scoring.
BAYLOR IN EXHIBITION ACTION
Five of the six players that played in Baylor's exhibition opener against the Houston Jaguars on Thursday, scored in double figures propelling the Lady Bears to a 99-57 victory.
Senior point guard Angela Tisdale led all scorers with 29, going 10-of-16 from the floor including six treys. Three players, Jhasmin Player, Jessika Bradley and Rachel Allison all collected double-doubles.
Player tallied 21 points to go with 11 boards while Bradley turned in a 17-point, 15-rebound performance and Allison scored 16 while hauling down 10 boards.
