WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis, ranked No. 5, defeated No. 41 Georgia Tech, 6-1, Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Georgia Tech swept all three doubles matches to take an early lead. Scott Blackmon and Jose Muguruza defeated Baylor's duo of Lars Poerschke and Denes Lukacs 8-5, while Eric Molnar and Luke Rassow-Kantor downed previously undefeated Matija Zgaga and David Galic 8-6. Georgia Tech's George Gvelesiani and Jordan DeLass added another win for the Yellow Jackets defeating Dominik Mueller and Matt Brown 9-7.
Baylor swept all six single matches in two sets to claim the victory. Brown gained Baylor its first point with a 6-0, 1-0 (ret.) downing of No. 40 David North, while No. 31 Poerschke followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jose Muguruza. Zgaga, ranked at the No. 101 spot, added another win for the Bears defeating Jordan DeLass 6-2, 6-2 on court three. Attila Bucko clinched the match for the Bears defeating Blackmon 6-3, 6-4. Denes Lukacs picked up another win for the Bears on court four with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Eric Molnar while No. 87 Mueller defeated Rassow-Kantor 7-6(4), 6-1.
"We rebounded from doubles in a positive way. I was pleased with the way the match ended," said head coach Matt Knoll.
The Bears now 13-2 on the season will return to action when they travel to Nebraska to compete in their first conference game against Nebraska on Friday, March 23.
With the loss Georgia Tech drops to 5-7 on the season.
