Indoor Recap
The men's 4x400-meter relay team continued its dominance, winning its seventh NCAA Indoor National Championship. The mile relay team claimed its 15th overall national championship (seven indoor, eight outdoor) and earned All-America honors for the 28th straight year, finishing in the top three for the 22nd time. Baylor's time of 3:04.24 was the fastest of the season, and marked the fastest time in the world this year. The Bears remained undefeated in collegiate mile relay races; its only defeat coming to Team USA. In all, Baylor earned 12 All-America honors, including the women's distance medley relay, which finished fifth for the second straight season. Quentin Iglehart-Summers (3rd) and LeJerald Betters (9th) earned All-America citations in the open 400 meters, while Reggie Witherspoon (5th) and Trey Harts (8th) were named All-Americans in the 200 meters.
Outdoor Outlook
The Bears look to carry their success from the indoor season during the outdoor campaign. Reggie Witherspoon will compete in the 200 and 400 meters outdoors, following an impressive indoor season that saw the senior claim Big 12 titles in both events. Witherspoon was named the Indoor Male Athlete of the Year and the High Point Performer, and was selected as the USTFCCCA South Central Male Athlete of the Year. Iglehart-Summers and Betters also look to improve in the 400 meters as Baylor continues its dominance in the quarter-mile. On the women's side, the Bears have depth in the sprint events with Carla Grace, Tiana Hood, and Rachael Long. Lauren Tillman is back on the 400 meter hurdles, and Katrina Taylor leads the squad in the open 400 meters. Baylor improves outdoor with the addition of the 3,000 steeplechase, where senior Monique Ortega and junior Lyndsy Bedell each earned all-conference honors last year. Sophomore Erin Bedell earned All-Big 12 honors in the 1,500 meters, and will lead a young distance medley relay team that owns both the indoor and outdoor school records.
Next Up
The Bears will compete at the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday, March 30-31 in Palo Alto, Calif.
